Micro Focus Inspiring Stories

North America Vertica Colleagues Come Together to Volunteer

Micro Focus Gives Back – this is our latest employee volunteering initiative during the month of June, where colleagues across Micro Focus North America locations are teaming up to make positive impacts in their local communities, as part of Micro Focus INSPIRE, our global Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) program.

Recently, Vertica North America colleagues volunteered together to support the Greater Boston Food Bank and Sense International, a global charity that provides advice, guidance and support to people with deafness and partial blindness.

The team packed 432 grocery bags with donated food items at the Greater Boston Food Bank, which will be distributed to families in need. Having done the packing in record time, the team then got to work separating approximately 250 banana cartons in prep for the following day’s volunteering activity. According to Feeding America, a Micro Focus charity partner, one in 13 people face hunger in the area served by the Greater Boston Food Bank. Through our Inspire a Million Lives campaign, Micro Focus is supporting Feeding America’s national hunger-relief initiatives.

Giving Back Virtually

In continuing their volunteering, the Vertica team also pulled together to take part in a virtual volunteering activity where they learnt the basics of sign language and between them created a message of hope for Sense International to share with those it supports. The activity is part of Micro Focus INSPIRE’s recently launched Virtual Volunteering for Teams program.

Teri Bolduc, Vertica, who helped organise the event, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to come together as a team and volunteer. It was certainly a day well spent, and wonderful to be able to take time off to give back to our community.”
