Micro Focus North America Teams Up to Give Back

During the month of June, Micro Focus employees across North America (NA) are teaming up to take part in a volunteering initiative called Micro Focus Gives Back to further harness team spirit while making positive impacts in their local communities.

Driven by Scott Walston, President, Americas Sales, Micro Focus Gives Back forms part of Micro Focus INSPIRE, our company-wide Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) program and leverages our global employee volunteering programs – including the recently launched Virtual Volunteering for Teams and our Inspire a Million Lives campaign – to bring our diverse talents together to take part in meaningful activities.

The team in Micro Focus North America has already made significant impacts. Colleagues have come together to volunteer to fill food boxes to help feed families in their local communities; taken part in fundraising events; blood drives; book donations; and neighbourhood clean-ups. One group of colleagues helped a Girl Scout troop from South Eastern Michigan build and fill a mini-library through the Little Free Library organization.

Through our partnership with Feeding America, our charity partner as part of Inspire a Million Lives, colleagues have volunteered at food banks in Boston and Houston, with several more locations planned during the month. Teams have worked together to help the Rancho Santa Margarita Food Bank in Orange County, California reach its monthly goal of providing 5,000 pounds of food to over 200 people. Most recently, a group of colleagues volunteered to host a remembrance tea party to honour and support neighbours who had lost loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Across the region, there are colleagues from varied backgrounds who are driven, compassionate and bring tremendous experiences. Day in and day out they pull together to find answers, fix problems and improve outcomes. We’re using this combined energy and talent to make positive social impacts – to give back and make a difference,” says Scott.

Sarah Atkinson, Director, Corporate Social Responsibility, said: “It’s fantastic to see the energy and enthusiasm behind this initiative, which further drives our social purpose of helping to equip communities with the skills needed to thrive in their digital futures. All Micro Focus employees receive four volunteering days each year, and through this there are plenty of ways we can come together to make positive impacts in our communities.”
