Inspire a Million Lives: Supporting Our Charity Partner Feeding America

Since the launch of our global campaign earlier this year – Inspire a Million Lives – the Micro Focus North America team has supported its charity partner, Feeding America, through a series of volunteering events – helping to provide over 1.4 million meals to people in need.

Over the last few months, over 60 colleagues took their annual Micro Focus INSPIRE volunteering days to support their local Feeding America food banks. Following necessary COVID-19 restrictions, groups of teams took part in a variety of activities from packing and sorting food boxes to delivering food to families in need.

Cassie Schelldorf, Internal Communications Leader, CyberRes, and Micro Focus INSPIRE Ambassador for Feeding America, said: “It’s the tremendous team effort and willingness to get involved that has helped us achieve great results so far. The local volunteering events were organized by our team of North America INSPIRE Ambassadors, who encouraged colleagues in their local sites to come together to make a positive difference. September is Hunger Action Month, driven by Feeding America, and to support this we have organized several volunteering events during the month.”

Volunteering for Feeding America

Read some of the stories of how Micro Focus colleagues have come together to volunteer to support our charity partner Feeding America over last few months:

Atlanta, GA – Atlanta Community Food Bank

Together with a team of 19 Micro Focus volunteers, two successful volunteer events were organised at the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB). ACFB provides food distribution to over 700 non-profit agencies across 29 counties in North Georgia, including Atlanta. Our volunteer groups packaged over 30,000 pounds of food to feed seniors, and helped to sort donations from outside food drives.

Amy Auriemma, Micro Focus Director of Marketing Initiatives, and Atlanta Micro Focus INSPIRE Ambassador who helped organise the volunteering activities, said: “I am continuously proud to work for a company that promotes volunteerism as a much as Micro Focus does. We are having a great time coming together as a team to volunteer and help make a difference in people’s lives from all parts of our communities.”

Boston, MA – Greater Boston Food Bank

In Boston, MA, a group of Micro Focus volunteers packed a total of 131 boxes of food for the Greater Boston Food Bank’s Brown Bag program, to be distributed in local neighbourhoods to those in need.

Teri Bolduc, Vertica, says: “These 131 boxes included nearly 4,000 meals – wow!” It was a humbling but rewarding experience. It is tough to grasp that poverty and hunger live right down the street. I grew up in Lowell, MA, but never went to bed hungry. I am thankful and blessed. I will continue to volunteer with the Greater Boston Food Bank in the future.”

Houston, Texas, Food Bank

A group of 13 Micro Focus volunteers from our Houston site came together to volunteer at the Houston Foodbank. The team spent the day sorting and packing food, which was then distributed to local communities.

Laquitta DeMerchant, Micro Focus Support Account Manager, and Houston Micro Focus INSPIRE Ambassador, said: “It is fantastic to have the opportunity to volunteer and support organisations that are making positive impacts to people in need. Feeding America provides much-needed support to our communities, and being part of their efforts is a great way to pay it forward.”

Philadelphia, PA – Philabundance

In June, a team of 13 Philadelphia-based employees volunteered for Philabundance, an organisation whose mission is to drive hunger from communities and aims to end hunger for good. Our team of Micro Focus volunteers created boxes of food for senior citizens, packing over 240 boxes of food.

Washington DC – Martha’s Table

At Martha’s Table, they believe that every Washingtonian deserves the opportunity to thrive, supporting children, families, and communities by increasing access to quality education, health and wellness, and family resources. In June, the Federal CyberRes team was able to join Martha’s Table on a Friday to help pack food to deliver to local families.

Sara Hobson, Micro Focus Vice President, Federal Sales, said: “It was fantastic to come together with the team and volunteer to help do something meaningful for our local community. Taking time out to volunteer is also a great way to further connect with the team and build and enjoy time together.”
